Neighbourhood Watch
Local
Our local Neighbourhood Watch Scheme originated from my husband's funeral.
Ralph had requested a family-only funeral to be followed by a garden party for all his friends and ex-colleagues.
Worried about the impact of extra street parked cars on my more immediate neighbours, I invited them to the funeral party although I knew several of them only slightly, (despite having lived in the same house for over thirty years.)
I had to introduce the neighbours to each other when they arrived and they were the last to leave. They were all still busy getting to know each other.
A few weeks later when I was in more of a mood to reflect on this I canvassed the fprty nearest households and found that the majority were in favour of starting a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme.
Our Neighbourhood Watch concentrates less on crime and more on a sense of community. We have a Neighbourhood Watch Barbecue in a different garden each summer and go carol siging round the whole road, visiting the sick and housebound.
